Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure aimed at improving blood flow to the heart, particularly for individuals with severe coronary artery disease. This condition occurs when arteries in the heart become blocked or narrowed, leading to reduced blood supply and potential chest pain, known as angina.

During CABG surgery, a surgeon takes a healthy blood vessel from another part of your body, often from the leg or chest, and uses it to create a new pathway around the blocked arteries. This process is referred to as creating a “bypass.” By restoring normal blood flow to the heart, CABG can significantly reduce chest pain and lower the risk of a heart attack.
