About

Dr Theodor Cebotaru is a senior cardiovascular surgeon and Head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department at Spitalul Monza in Bucharest, with a career defined by exceptional surgical volume, technical innovation and leadership in minimally invasive cardiac procedures. With more than three decades of experience, he is widely regarded as one of the most experienced surgeons in Romania in off-pump coronary surgery and mitral valve repair. He trained in medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hațieganu” in Cluj-Napoca, before specialising in cardiovascular surgery and undertaking advanced training in leading cardiac centres in Italy, including Milan, Trento and Novara. This international formation provided the foundation for a career focused on complex cardiac interventions and the development of advanced surgical techniques. Dr Cebotaru has performed over 3,500 off-pump myocardial revascularisation procedures and more than 3,000 valve replacement or repair surgeries, including over 750 mitral valve repairs. His clinical practice is heavily oriented towards minimally invasive approaches, which now account for approximately 90% of his procedures, supporting reduced surgical trauma and faster patient recovery. He is also recognised for his role as a surgical innovator, having performed several national “firsts” in Romania, including early adoption of off-pump bypass surgery, minimally invasive cardiac procedures and robotic-assisted cardiac surgery. As Head of Department, he leads a high-capacity surgical unit and is actively involved in the training and development of younger surgeons, contributing to the advancement of cardiovascular surgery at a national level. Within the MMG network, Dr Cebotaru represents a highly experienced and technically advanced cardiac surgeon, offering patients a high degree of confidence in both surgical expertise and treatment outcomes within a leading European cardiac centre.
