Dr. Virgilio De Lemos Álvarez

Dr. Virgilio De Lemos Álvarez is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon with more than 25 years’ specialist experience dedicated to spinal surgery. Based in Málaga, he treats highly complex cervical, thoracic and lumbar conditions, including disc herniation, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, vertebral compression fractures and degenerative spinal disease. His practice spans conservative assessment and advanced operative treatment, including microdiscectomy, decompression, spinal fusion, vertebroplasty, percutaneous kyphoplasty and radiofrequency rhizolysis for chronic spinal pain. Dr. De Lemos graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Málaga in 1982. He subsequently completed specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Regional University Hospital of Málaga, formerly Hospital Carlos Haya, qualifying through Spain’s MIR system. From 1985, he developed his hospital career in orthopaedics and trauma, later concentrating his practice on spinal pathology and surgery. He continued to refine his expertise through advanced spinal surgery courses, Andalusian spine meetings and major international congresses devoted to complex spinal disorders. A founding member of the Málaga Institute of Traumatology and Sports Medicine (IMATDE), Dr. De Lemos spent more than 20 years helping to develop specialist spinal services in the Costa del Sol region and served as Chief of its Spine Unit. He is currently Head of the Spinal Surgery Unit at HM El Pilar Day Hospital in Málaga and also provides specialist consultations and surgery at Hospital Ochoa in Marbella. He has been a member of the Spanish Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SECOT) since 1996 and of the Spanish Spine Society, GEER, since 2002.
