Dr Valdemar Loiba, MD, PhD, is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the hip, shoulder and knee. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, he has developed particular expertise in sports orthopaedics, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscal surgery and advanced joint-preserving procedures. He performs more than 400 arthroscopic operations each year, including over 100 shoulder and 100 hip arthroscopies, making him one of Lithuania's most experienced arthroscopic surgeons.
Dr Loiba studied medicine at Kaunas Medical University between 1997 and 2003 before completing his initial postgraduate residency in 2003–2004. He subsequently undertook specialist residency training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology from 2004 to 2009, qualifying as an orthopaedic surgeon and traumatologist in 2009. Between 2010 and 2015, he completed a PhD at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, where his doctoral research examined the influence of hip short rotator muscles on osteoarthritis and total hip replacement outcomes. Since 2009, he has also practised as an orthopaedic surgeon and traumatologist at Kauno Klinikos, one of Lithuania's leading university hospitals and tertiary referral centres.
His clinical practice encompasses ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, hip, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, cartilage preservation techniques, sports injury surgery and minimally invasive orthopaedics. Alongside his surgical work, Dr Loiba has contributed to peer-reviewed research into hip arthroplasty, soft tissue reconstruction and minimally invasive hip surgery, and regularly presents his work at international scientific meetings. He is a member of both the Lithuanian Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the Lithuanian Association for Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology, and has undertaken advanced professional training throughout Sweden, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Czechia and Poland.
Within the MMG network, Dr Loiba provides specialist expertise for patients requiring ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic treatment of sports injuries and minimally invasive hip, shoulder and knee surgery at Nordclinic in Kaunas. His combination of high-volume arthroscopic practice, university hospital experience, research into modern reconstructive techniques and commitment to joint-preserving surgery is particularly relevant to MMG patients seeking rapid access to advanced orthopaedic care and structured rehabilitation in one of Europe's leading specialist orthopaedic centres.
