Dr Vytautas Kimtys

Dr Vytautas Kimtys, MD, is a highly experienced orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery, sports injuries and advanced lower limb reconstruction. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, he is recognised as one of Lithuania's leading specialists in complex ankle surgery, minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures and total ankle replacement. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 500 total ankle replacements and over 1,000 ankle fusion procedures, making him one of the region's most experienced foot and ankle surgeons. Dr Kimtys studied medicine at Kaunas Medical University between 1994 and 2000 before completing specialist residency training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences from 2001 to 2005. Since 2005, he has served as an orthopaedic surgeon at the Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos, Lithuania's leading university hospital and tertiary referral centre for orthopaedic trauma and reconstructive surgery, while also holding an academic appointment within the university's Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. His specialist practice includes ankle arthroscopy, ankle instability surgery, total ankle replacement, ankle fusion, Achilles tendon reconstruction, corrective surgery for foot deformities, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration procedures, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscal surgery and the treatment of complex foot, ankle and knee injuries. He performs approximately 300 procedures each year and has undertaken advanced specialist training in Germany and Austria, including ESSKA's Advanced Ankle Arthroscopy Course, the AMIC Talus programme at Schoen Clinic Harlaching in Munich and the International Symposium on Total Ankle Arthroplasty. Dr Kimtys is a member of the Lithuanian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, the Lithuanian Foot Surgery Society, the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) and ESSKA. Alongside his clinical practice, he has co-authored scientific publications on foot and ankle surgery, sports trauma and reconstructive orthopaedics, reflecting his continuing commitment to evidence-based practice and innovation.
