Dra. Eugenia Vázquez Rey

Dr María Eugenia Vázquez Rey has more than 20 years of specialist clinical experience. She has established an outstanding reputation in clinical cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, heart failure, preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. Her practice combines advanced non-invasive diagnostic techniques with evidence-based medical management, enabling the early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of both acute and chronic cardiovascular disease. Since 2016, she has also served as Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at HM Matogrande Hospital, leading multidisciplinary programmes designed to improve recovery, reduce cardiovascular risk and optimise long-term patient outcomes. Dr Vázquez Rey studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Navarra between 1991 and 1997 before completing her specialist (MIR) training in Cardiology at Hospital Juan Canalejo, A Coruña, from 1998 to 2003. During her residency she was awarded a competitive fellowship by the Spanish Society of Cardiology, which enabled her to undertake research at the Department of Cardiological Sciences at St George's Hospital Medical School, London, in 2002. She subsequently completed Advanced Studies in Clinical Medicine at the University of A Coruña (2000–2002), a Master's Degree in Cardiac Imaging at the Catholic University of Murcia (2012–2014), a Master's Degree in Clinical Unit Management at the University of Murcia (2017), postgraduate training in Secondary Prevention in Cardiology at the University of Alcalá (2017), specialist training in Heart Failure at the University of Alcalá (2018) and a Master's Degree in Acute Cardiac Care at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (2019). Since joining Hospital Modelo in 2003, Dr Vázquez Rey has played a central role in developing one of Galicia's leading private cardiology services. She became Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit in 2016 and is also a founding consultant at Cardiomodelo Coruña, where she provides comprehensive consultant-led cardiovascular care. Her principal clinical interests include coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, cardiovascular prevention and advanced echocardiography. She has particular expertise in multimodality cardiac imaging and non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostics, employing the latest technologies to guide diagnosis, treatment planning and long-term patient management. Dr Vázquez Rey maintains an active commitment to continuing professional education through regular participation in specialist courses and national cardiology congresses. She is a member of both the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology and has contributed to multicentre clinical studies, scientific publications and presentations at national and international cardiology meetings. Within the MMG network, Dr Vázquez Rey represents a flagship cardiologist, offering patients internationally trained expertise, advanced cardiovascular imaging and consultant-led heart care within the multidisciplinary environment of HM Modelo Hospital.
