About
Dr Ignasi Anguera Camós is Director of the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Unit at HM Nou Delfos and HM CIEC Barcelona. With almost 30 years of specialist experience, he is internationally recognised for the diagnosis and interventional treatment of complex cardiac rhythm disorders. His practice encompasses catheter ablation, cardiac pacing, implantable cardiac devices and the management of patients at risk of sudden cardiac death, combining advanced technology with evidence-based consultant-led care.
Dr Anguera graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona between 1986 and 1992 before completing his specialist training in Cardiology through the Spanish MIR programme at the prestigious Hospital Clínic de Barcelona from 1993 to 1997. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Arrhythmias at the internationally renowned Cardiovascular Institute in Aalst, Belgium, between 1998 and 2000. In 2006, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (PhD) by the University of Barcelona with the distinction of Cum Laude. He also holds accreditation in Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology from both the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), reflecting the highest European standards of specialist competence.
Prior to joining HM Hospitales, Dr Anguera served as Clinical Head of Cardiology and Director of the Arrhythmia Unit at Bellvitge University Hospital, one of Spain's foremost tertiary cardiac centres. Since 2010 he has also been Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, combining clinical practice with undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. His principal clinical interests include atrial fibrillation, supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia, Brugada syndrome, catheter ablation, electrophysiological studies, pacemaker implantation, leadless pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr Anguera has established an outstanding international academic reputation. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications, delivered invited lectures at major European and international cardiology congresses and has played a leading role in research into ventricular arrhythmias, sudden cardiac death, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and implantable defibrillator technology. His ResearchGate profile lists approximately 189 scientific publications with almost 6,000 citations, underlining his significant contribution to contemporary cardiac electrophysiology.
