About
Dr Maite Cusidó Gimferrer, MD, PhD, is internationally recognised for her expertise in gynaecological cancer, minimally invasive surgery and complex women's health. With more than 30 years of specialist clinical experience, she is Medical Director of the Instituto Cusidó and Head of Gynaecology at Hospital HM Nou Delfos, where she leads a multidisciplinary team providing advanced diagnostic, surgical and oncological care. Her practice combines consultant-led clinical excellence with an outstanding academic and research career, making her one of Catalonia's leading specialists in women's health.
Dr Cusidó graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona between 1986 and 1992 before completing her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, obtaining her specialist qualification in 1996. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine (PhD) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1999 and, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning, completed a Master's Degree in Gynaecological Oncology in 2021. Her postgraduate training has been complemented by continuous specialist education in advanced laparoscopic surgery, gynaecological oncology and cervical cancer prevention.
Her principal clinical interests include ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancer, premalignant cervical disease, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, breast pathology and pelvic floor disorders. She has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery, employing minimally invasive techniques to reduce surgical trauma, shorten hospital stays and accelerate patient recovery while maintaining the highest oncological standards. She also leads multidisciplinary treatment pathways for women requiring coordinated long-term management of complex gynaecological conditions.
Alongside her clinical responsibilities, Dr Cusidó has established an outstanding international academic profile. She has authored or co-authored 71 peer-reviewed scientific publications, attracting more than 630 academic citations. Her research spans more than two decades and focuses on gynaecological oncology, cervical cancer screening and prevention, endometrial and ovarian cancer, breast disease, advanced endoscopic surgery and hereditary cancer risk. She has published in leading international journals including European Journal of Gynaecological Oncology, Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Clinical and Translational Oncology and The Breast. She has also contributed to Spanish national clinical guidelines on cervical cancer screening and breast cancer management, reinforcing her position as one of Spain's leading academic gynaecological oncologists.
Her contribution to women's healthcare has also been recognised nationally, being named among Spain's leading female doctors and repeatedly recognised among Catalonia's top gynaecologists by independent professional and patient rankings.
