Dr. José María Verdaguer Muñoz

Dr José María Verdaguer Muñoz, MD, PhD, is one of Spain's leading ENT surgeons with more than 20 years of specialist clinical experience. He has established an outstanding reputation in otology, laryngology, head and neck surgery and advanced ENT procedures. Alongside his leadership role within HM Hospitales, he continues to practise as a Consultant Otolaryngologist at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, one of Spain's foremost university teaching hospitals, combining high-volume clinical practice with academic research, healthcare management and specialist education. Dr Verdaguer graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid before completing his MIR specialist training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Hospital Universitario La Paz, Madrid, one of Spain's leading tertiary referral centres. He subsequently completed an advanced Fellowship in Otology, further developing specialist expertise in hearing disorders, middle ear surgery and complex otological procedures. He later returned to the Autonomous University of Madrid to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), awarded Cum Laude, for his doctoral research examining voice alterations following thyroid surgery, reflecting his long-standing interest in laryngology, voice preservation and functional outcomes following endocrine surgery. Between 2008 and 2013, Dr Verdaguer served as Head of the ENT Section at Hospital El Escorial. He was subsequently appointed Deputy Medical Director for the Surgical Area at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, a position he held from 2014 until 2021, overseeing one of Madrid's busiest surgical services. During this period, he also chaired the Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee at the Puerta de Hierro Health Research Institute, demonstrating his commitment to clinical governance, ethical medical research and healthcare quality. His clinical practice encompasses otology, hearing restoration, chronic ear disease, dizziness and balance disorders, endoscopic nasal and sinus surgery, thyroid-related voice disorders, laryngology, paediatric ENT, salivary gland disease and head and neck surgery.
