Bio: Dr Óscar Martínez Pérez, MD, PhD, is one of Spain's leading gynaecologists and obstetricians and is internationally recognised for his expertise in foetal medicine, prenatal diagnosis and high-risk obstetrics. He has devoted more than three decades to improving maternal and foetal outcomes through clinical excellence, academic research and medical education. His practice encompasses the management of complex pregnancies, advanced foetal assessment and consultant-led obstetric care, making him one of Spain's foremost authorities in modern maternal-foetal medicine. Dr Martínez Pérez graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid before completing his specialist (MIR) training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hospital Universitario de Getafe under the supervision of Professor José María Bajo Arenas, one of Spain's most distinguished gynaecologists. In 1997, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (PhD) by the Complutense University of Madrid, receiving the distinction of Cum Laude by unanimous decision of the examining tribunal. In 2000, he undertook advanced subspecialist training in Foetal Medicine at the internationally renowned Foetal Medicine Foundation in London, where he developed expertise in first-trimester screening, foetal ultrasound, invasive prenatal diagnosis and the management of complex foetal conditions. Throughout his career, Dr Martínez Pérez has held senior leadership positions within the Madrid Health Service, including Head of Department and Coordinator of Outpatient Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, one of Spain's largest tertiary maternity centres. His clinical practice focuses on high-risk pregnancy, foetal growth restriction, multiple pregnancy, prenatal screening for chromosomal abnormalities, foetal medicine, advanced ultrasound and the management of complex deliveries.
